Brand Protection – not a bad month…

It has not been a bad month for Surelock’s Brand Protection Team with regards to the sale of counterfeit watches.

Working in partnership with Bexley Trading Standards, we identified a closed Facebook Group selling many counterfeit watch brands making test purchases and then with local police, raided the home address of this prolific online seller of designer watches, thousands of counterfeit high-end watches were seized, with £1.8 million in sales going through PAYPAL.

In addition to this, there has been a highly significant result working together with a dedicated team from City of London Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU), we identified a major wholesaler of counterfeit watches in Charles House, Southall, raided the premises and seized in total £200 million of counterfeit high end brands, including £100 million in counterfeit high value designer watches.

On top of these actions, we have also continued to deliver great results with our on-going monthly brand protection work for our many clients, with several other significant raids all over UK. In addition, our online team has been busy working proactively in taking down thousands of infringements for some of our other retained clients.

We continue to work with our colleagues at The Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG) in gathering intelligence for other joint operations.

And finally, an excellent Court result, following the seizure of £48,000 worth of counterfeit SanDisk from AD Enterprise in Sutton. Working with Sutton Trading Standards the director Adnan Aziz was prosecuted for selling and possessing counterfeit goods in Sutton High Street and on eBay. After a very complicated 8-day trial the Jury delivered a GUILTY verdict on all 9 counts. Sentencing will be at Isleworth Crown Court on the 16th of December.
